How does an airline navigate a century filled with highs and challenges? How do technological innovations shape the transformation of a fleet—from propeller planes to the vision of a low-emission future? And how does a route network develop, starting with a few destinations and now connecting the world? How has Lufthansa become an icon of aviation over 100 years?
The second season of the Lufthansa podcast "Above & Beyond" takes listeners on a journey through 100 years of company history—with exciting insights into the past, present, and future of Germany's largest airline. Whether it's crises, technological milestones, or the travel experience of the future—each of the five new episodes opens a chapter of Lufthansa history and hands the microphone to those who are writing it.
Building on the success of the first season last year, host Anja Heyde dedicates the second season to the 100-year history of the Lufthansa brand. She listens to stories from developers with big ideas, talks to historians, and long-time employees about moving moments, technological milestones, and new perspectives.
"Our second season shows how multifaceted Lufthansa is—yesterday, today, and tomorrow. We want to tell captivating stories that appeal to our employees as well as aviation fans worldwide," explains Sonja Seipke, Head of News & Stories Lufthansa Airlines. "Above & Beyond aims to surprise, contextualize, and inspire—with voices that are otherwise unheard and with exciting perspectives on our fascinating Lufthansa."
The podcast "Above & Beyond" is available from September 16, 2025, at https://www.lufthansagroup.com/en/lufthansa-podcast/above-beyond.html and on all major platforms like Spotify and Apple Podcasts. New episodes are released every two weeks in German and English.
The history of Lufthansa begins in 1926 – with a book, an idea, and a dream: flying. The airline's archive contains the first handwritten share register, in-flight tableware from the 1950s, and sick bags. In Episode 1 Archivist Luisa Schürmann and her predecessor Carola Kapitza take us on a journey through 100 years of aviation history and tell us how documents become living stories.
